Replica of a silk brocade found in the Moscevaja Balka necropolis, located in ancient Circassia, a historical region that encompasses the entire Northwest Caucasus, gradually conquered by the Russians between 1763 and 1864. Dated from the 6th-9th centuries.
The pattern of this silk consists of dotted medallions which frame striking stars. This style of brocade was very typical of Asia and Byzantium and its use spread throughout Europe.

Medallion size: ~18 cm.

Composition: 65% silk, 35% rayon.
