Sogdia or Sogdiana was an ancient civilization that lived at the territory located in present-day Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, such as Samarkand, Bukhara, Khujand, Panjikent, and Shahrisabz. Many of these cities were part of the Silk Road, the old trade route that linked China with the Mediterranean. Sogdiana was also a province of the Achaemenid Empire, eighteenth in the list on the Behistun Inscription of Darius the Great.
This fabulous replica shows a pattern with confronted winged horses in roundels.
This style of brocade was very common in Asia, and there are many sassanian brocades with a very similar design.
